Transport Minister declares ISBT functional after 5 years of inauguration

Imphal, Nov 13: After almost 5 years of inauguration the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) constructed at Dingku Road near Khuman Lampak was declared functional today by the State Transport Minister Kh, Ratan. To mark the functioning of the ISBT, the Minister also flagged off a passenger vehicle.
The Inter-State Bus terminus was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh in the presence of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on December 3, 2011. Soon after the inauguration the ISBT complex has been left abandoned by the government authority for around 5 years.
“The ISBT could not be made functional due to various reason”, the Transport Minister Kh rattan while talking to reporters said but did not mention the real reason on why it has been left abandon and remembered only now when the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election is just around 100 days.
Ratan blames the frequent bandh and blockades even though he himself is a part of the government, as one reason for wasting the multi crore project.
“Trucks, and other vehicles use to park here during prolong bandh and blockade as there are no proper secure location for vehicles to park”, the minister said.
Interestingly Ratan also stated that the recent 6.7 magnitude earthquake which occurred on January 4 this year is also one reason for leaving the ISBT- a wasted construction.
