Training Programme on Scientific Cultivation of Mushroom concludes at ICAR

A three days training programme on ‘Scientific Cultivation of Mushroom’ concluded today at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, Imphal. This training programme was jointly organized by the Centre and ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom (DMR), Solan during 2-4 March, 2020. ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom (DMR) is the apex government body of the country working on research and development solely on mushrooms. Dr. Anupam Barh, Scientist from ICAR-DMR, Solan, HP represented Directorate of Mushroom in the training programme and conducted hand-on-training on advanced mushroom production technologies. Dr. Susheel K. Sharma, Scientist (Plant Pathology) of ICAR Manipur Centre along with his team conducted demonstration of different mushroom production technologies and hands-on-practical.
A total of 70 participants from Imphal East, Imphal West, Churachandpur, Chandel, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Bishnupur, Thoubal and other districts comprising of farmers, women, rural youth and entrepreneurs participated in the training programme. Training programme focused on skill development on spawn production, cultivation of oyster, shiitake, button mushrooms, management of mushroom crops and value addition. Hand-on training to all the participants was provided in the training programme. The trainees were taken to the ICAR, Manipur Centre beneficiary progressive mushroom growers units at Moirang Kampu (Binita Mushroom Farm) and Malom, Taobungkhok (Leima Mushroom), where they interacted with the progressive growers and learned their success stories. Dr. N. Prakash, Joint Director of ICAR and Dr. I. Meghachandra Singh briefed about the Centre’s work and achievements in dissemination of mushroom production technologies among farmers of Manipur.
In the feedback, trainees expressed their satisfaction on the training module and assured to take up mushroom cultivation a big way.
