Traffic curbs imposed on NH-2 amid restoration works near Phezama

The Kohima district administration on Wednesday informed that new traffic restrictions had been put in place along National Highway-2, in the Kohima–Mao section near Phezama, where restoration work was underway following sinking and damages between Km 192.050 and Km 192.150.
Officials stated that the movement of light motor vehicles would continue to be allowed, while heavy vehicles up to six wheelers with a maximum load of 20 tons would be permitted only during designated hours. They explained that trucks heading towards Manipur would be allowed to move from 8:00 pm to 12:00 midnight, while those bound for Dimapur would be permitted from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 am.
The administration also conveyed that convoys of security forces, LPG carriers, medical emergencies, fire tenders, and other essential service providers would be allowed during daytime hours.
It was further announced that all vehicular movement would remain suspended daily between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm to facilitate restoration works. Commuters were advised to use the alternative route via Phesama–Kigwema–Rhododendron Resort during this period.
Authorities cautioned that vehicle movement would be suspended altogether in the event of heavy rainfall, as there remained a high risk of landslides in the affected stretch.
The measures, they added, had been taken to regulate traffic while ensuring safety and enabling the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) to expedite restoration of the critical highway that connects Nagaland with Manipur.
