Total statewide bandh partially affects normalcy in Manipur

Many parts of the Imphal valley wore a deserted look and normal life was partially disturbed due to bandh called by a proscribed outfit National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM). The NRFM called total statewide bandh in opposition to the Manipur Merger Agreement of September 21, 1949.
Almost all shops and private establishment remained closed in Imphal valley. And the streets witnessed only few vehicles.
The NRFM had issued the bandh call on September 18, stating that “all the rights of Manipuris were forfeited” on September 21, 1949.
No untoward incidents were reported so far and the bandh was peaceful till the filing of this report.
Business establishments and shops remained closed, while few private vehicles were seen on the roads.
Schools remained closed and government offices registered thin attendance.
No untoward incident has been reported till 2.30 pm, police said.
Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, and Bishnupur districts lie in the Imphal valley.
The impact of the bandh is less in the hill areas of the state.
