Imphal, Jan 4,

The general strike imposed by the Coordinating Committee (CorCom) an umbrella body of six proscribed organisations based in the state as well as other militant outfits operating in Manipur against the visit of Prime Minister affected normal life in the state. Roads wore a deserted look except for very few motorists and major business establishments, shops, malls and markets including Thangal bazaar, Paona bazaar, and the three Ima keithels in Imphal remain closed. All public transportation including inter-state bus services and districts transport services were suspended due to the General strike. Petrol pumps were also found closed around the state capital and even further out.

Educational institutions like govt and private Schools, colleges and the University also remained closed. Although the state govt issued an order for all its employees to be present at the Hapta Kangjeibung to attend the function, the turnout at the said venue till the time of filing this report remains very less in proportion to the total strength of the govt employees.
