The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned what it described as “continued inhumane attacks” along National Highway-202, alleging that armed Kuki groups carried out a series of violent incidents that left one truck driver dead and another individual injured on Friday.
In a press statement issued from its Ukhrul headquarters, the TNL Working Committee alleged that heavily armed “Kuki narco-terrorist groups” opened indiscriminate fire at around 11 a.m. between Yaolen and Mongkot Chetpu targeting Food Corporation of India (FCI) trucks transporting essential commodities along NH-202.
According to the statement, Nitis Kumar (57), a truck driver from Hooghly district of West Bengal driving FCI Truck No. WB1SC/2403, was killed in the firing. The Committee further stated that Mr. Disingam Mringmei (35), a Manipur Police personnel posted at Litan, sustained serious injuries in the incident.
The TNL Working Committee alleged that the attack occurred in the presence of Central Security Forces deployed in the area and accused them of remaining “silent and inactive” despite repeated incidents of violence.
The Committee also claimed that prior to the attack on the trucks, armed assailants allegedly fired upon villagers of TM Kasom while they were digging graves for a burial ceremony. It further alleged that heavy firing was directed toward Litan, forcing residents to flee as bullets struck civilian homes.
Describing the situation along NH-202 as alarming, the Committee alleged that armed groups have been illegally blocking the highway for over three months, extorting civilians and carrying out repeated attacks along the stretch between Yaolen and Mongkot Chetpu.
The TNL Working Committee urged both the State and Central Governments to immediately restore normalcy, secure the highway, and ensure the safety of civilians. It also called for decisive action against the armed groups responsible for the violence and warned that continued inaction could lead to further loss of innocent lives.
