A seven-member delegation from Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), led by its President Qr. Sword Vashum, called on the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, today at 11:00 am. During the meeting, the delegation submitted three separate memorandums outlining critical issues faced by the tribals of Manipur, particularly those in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
The TNL President elaborated on the grievances listed in the memorandums, emphasizing the need for concrete action to address the longstanding challenges of the tribal communities. Governor Bhalla, after attentively listening to the concerns, assured the delegation that he would look into all the matters raised and explore possible solutions.
Key Issues Highlighted in the Memorandums
Enhanced Tribal Representation in the Legislature:
The TNL delegation underscored the urgent need for increased tribal representation in the Manipur Legislative Assembly. They argued that greater representation is crucial for ensuring that the voices of tribal communities are heard and that their concerns are adequately addressed in governance and decision-making processes.
Bifurcation of Budget Allocation:
The second memorandum called for the state budget to be bifurcated into two distinct components to cater to the diverse needs of the communities in Manipur. The delegation stressed that this approach would enable targeted development, ensuring that funds are allocated effectively and transparently for the welfare of all segments of the population.
Construction of New TNL Office Complex:
The delegation requested financial assistance for the construction of a new TNL office complex and a multi-purpose convention hall in Ukhrul. They highlighted that this facility would serve as a critical hub for community gatherings, cultural events, and administrative functions, strengthening community bonds and supporting local governance.
Administrative Solutions for Hill Districts:
The final memorandum called for immediate administrative solutions to resolve long-standing issues plaguing government departments in the hill districts of Ukhrul and Kamjong. The delegation emphasized that effective administrative reforms are essential to streamline government operations and improve service delivery for local communities.
