TNL condemns killing of six Liangmai Nagas, demands justice and action against Kuki militants

The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned the abduction and killing of six Liangmai Naga men allegedly by Kuki militants, describing the incident as a heinous act that has deeply shocked the Naga community.

In a statement issued by its Working Committee, the TNL expressed grief over the fate of the six Liangmai Naga civilians who were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district on May 13, 2026. Their mortal remains were recovered nearly a month later.

The organisation alleged that the victims, including church leaders and family members, were killed despite efforts by Naga groups to ease tensions through the release of 14 Kuki detainees. Extending solidarity to the bereaved families, the TNL pledged to support their pursuit of justice and called for those responsible to be brought to book.

The TNL also questioned the handling of the case by the State and Central governments, alleging lapses in the search operation and expressing concern over the delay in uncovering the victims’ fate. It claimed the incident has raised serious doubts among the public regarding the effectiveness of official efforts.

The organisation reiterated its demand for the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militant groups, declaration of the KNF-P as a terrorist organisation, dismissal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, and arrest of all those allegedly involved in the abduction and killing.

The TNL further sought justice in the killing of Wilson Thanga Chiru and legal action against those connected to the Leilon Vaiphei incident.

Appealing for restraint, the organisation urged Nagas not to allow the tragedy to trigger further unrest. It has called for a candlelight vigil on June 13 at 6 pm at Wino Bazaar Ground in Ukhrul headquarters to honour the victims and renew the demand for justice.
