TNL accuses KNA-B militants of killing two Naga civilians, burning nine houses

Ukhrul/Kamjong, October 11:
The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has accused the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) and Village Volunteers of Eastern Zone (VVEZ) of killing two Naga civilians, injuring two others and burning nine houses in Kamjong district, demanding an immediate high-level inquiry and stronger security along the Indo-Myanmar border.

In a press communiqué, the TNL alleged that the violence began around 10.30 pm on October 9, when armed Kuki militants opened fire on Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel conducting routine patrols near Chassad Kuki village, triggering a prolonged exchange of gunfire.

The organisation claimed that a crowd obstructed security personnel attempting to apprehend the suspected assailants, while a woman allegedly assisting the armed group was caught in the crossfire and later died of her injuries. Nine residential houses were reportedly burnt in Kamjong headquarters.

The TNL further stated that two civil defence volunteers, BS Honreipam of Ningthi and Ringphami Jajo of Ningchou, sustained gunshot injuries during the ensuing violence.

The situation allegedly escalated on October 10, when KNA-B and VVEZ members ambushed civilians at Ningchou village around 9 am. Two villagers, Ngachanso Ningshen and Leishisan Leishadang, were reportedly killed in the attack.

Strongly condemning the incidents, the TNL accused the governments of Manipur and India of failing to adequately protect Naga civilians in vulnerable border settlements. It demanded a high-level investigation into the killings, injuries and arson, and called for those responsible to be brought to justice.

The organisation also urged the authorities to strengthen security along the international border and take immediate measures to prevent further attacks on civilians.
