Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has condemned in the strongest terms the abduction and alleged killing of Mr. Meitei Mayanglambam, also known by his tribal name Ginminthang, in Churachandpur district on the evening of January 21, 2026.
In a statement issued by Manggou Thadou, Joint General Secretary of TIM, the organisation stated that Mr. Meitei Mayanglambam, husband of Mrs. Chingnu Haokip, was allegedly abducted and killed by armed Kuki militants from Tuibong. The statement said the attack was barbaric and premeditated, and occurred despite the presence of security forces in the area.
The organisation further stated that prior approval had reportedly been obtained from the Kuki National Organisation, a suspension of operations group active in the area, as well as from the Tuibong district headquarters authorities, for Mr. Meitei Mayanglambam’s visit. Thadou Inpi Manipur observed that the incident reflected a grave breakdown of law and order and highlighted the continuing threat posed by violent extremism in the region.
According to the statement, the killing was not merely an attack on an individual but an assault on justice, public safety and communal harmony in Manipur. The organisation expressed concern that such acts continue to endanger innocent civilians and undermine fragile peace and security.
Thadou Inpi Manipur called upon the authorities to take immediate and decisive action, including a thorough investigation, identification and arrest of those responsible, and strict punishment under the law. It also urged the government to adopt urgent preventive measures to protect law-abiding citizens and prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.
The organisation expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and appealed to all communities to unite against terrorism, extremism and radical violence in the interest of justice, peace and communal harmony.
