Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, who is also the leader of the house of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly today introduced the Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill, 2015. The bill is a reciprocation of the Eastern Bengal Frontiers Regulation which have restriction to the entry of outsiders in the state. Sitting of the state legislative Assembly session which had begun from February 25, 2015 was originally scheduled to end on March 3, however due to pressure from various section of the society particularly the JCILPS which has been spearheading an intense agitation for introduction of a bill to check the illegal flow of influx in the state had compelled the government to extend the sitting for 2 more days. The extension of the house was resolved during the meeting of the BAC Assembly Secretariat in the backdrop of the severe criticism over the state government failure to introduce such a bill during the three days sitting which was assured earlier by the government. It may be mentioned that both opposition benches and the treasury benches has no differences towards the introduction of such a bill as it is of public sentiment. Content of the bill could not be known at the moment but source said that the bill was prepared by a committee comprising of all political parties. The bill will be sent to the governor of Manipur for his consent and the house will passed it on the next sitting which is scheduled to hold on March 16.
