Imphal, Sept 8:
Thawai Mirel has condemned the Indian government for its role in the ongoing violence in the state. The organization blamed the central authorities for failing to address the escalating attacks by Kuki militants, which have severely impacted civilians.
Speaking to the media today, P. Sanahanbi Devi, Co-convenor of Thawai Mirel, urged the public to stand firm in their resolve and pressure the Indian government to act. “The citizens of Manipur cannot afford to remain passive any longer. We must rise to protect our state and ensure the government takes the necessary steps,” she said.
She stated that “they emphasized the growing threat posed by Kuki militants in the region, warning of potential attacks orchestrated with foreign support from the U.S. and China. However, India government is doing nothing.”
The group criticized India’s inaction, accusing the government of allowing the situation to spiral out of control. Recent attacks, involving drone strikes and missile use, have caused numerous casualties and left Manipur’s population vulnerable. Thawai Mirel demanded that the Indian government take immediate responsibility and implement effective measures to stop the violence.
The deployment of advanced technologies, such as drones and rockets are worrisome and the state machinery is doing nothing.
The group emphasized that the people of Manipur, along with civil society organizations and political parties, must unite to push back against the state’s negligence. Thawai Mirel warned that if the current situation continues, it will lead to further unrest and destruction. The organization called on the people to recognize that the violence stems from India’s failed policies, not external forces, and to demand accountability.
