The leadership of Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) met with AK Mishra, Advisor (Northeast) to the Ministry of Home Affairs, at his office in North Block, New Delhi, on February 17, 2025. During the meeting, TIM presented a comprehensive roadmap for restoring lasting peace in Manipur.
TIM reportedly highlighted the severe impact of the ongoing violence, including the loss of lives and properties, particularly affecting the Thadou tribal community. The delegation reiterated its commitment to peace and non-violent solutions while expressing concern over the community’s suffering since the outbreak of violence on May 3, 2023.
The delegation also stated that the Thadou tribe had a distinct identity and was not a subgroup of Kuki but an independent entity. TIM further raised concerns over alleged persecution of the Thadou people by Kuki militant groups and associated organizations over the years.
During the discussion, TIM emphasized the Thadou community’s role as peacemakers, despite facing threats from anti-peace groups. AK Mishra was said to have acknowledged the concerns raised, recognizing the Thadou tribe’s distinct identity and their efforts towards peace. He also noted that misconceptions about the Thadou identity had been fueled by ignorance and systematic disinformation.
The Thadou community, described as the largest tribal group in Manipur, was highlighted as a key stakeholder in the peace process. TIM reaffirmed its stance against any organization that misrepresented Thadou as part of the Kuki identity, asserting that such claims did not reflect the true interests of the Thadou people.
