Tension runs high at Moidangpok Village over land dispute

Tension runs high among the locals of Moidangpok Village after several organisations of the area imposed public curfew in and around the area amidst the 24 hour general strike called by KSO at Sardar Hill area over the land dispute at Moidangpok CRPF Magzine Area. The stretch of land is about 10 hectors in area. On May 2, a group of people belonging to Kuki community came to the site and destroyed a temple build by the locals of the area along with some other huts. The locals of Moidangpok village protested the action of the Kuki people who were accompanied by Police personnel. Following the move various society Moidangpok Keithelmanbi Land Protection Committee, New Kethelmanbi Development Association, Apunba Meitei Leima and meira Paibi Lup and Meitei National Youth Front, South East Asia called public curfew stating that the land belongs to the village of Moidangpok since time memorial and has been included in the map drawn in 1960s. On the other hand Kuki Students’ Organisation, while claiming the land to be of the Kuki’s also called a 24 hours general strike today starting from yesterday midnight. As there were no meeting points of solution between the two counter claims tension seems to be running high with potential outbreak of a serious communal clash.
Moidangpok Villagers were asked to stop selling things including essential commodities to the Kukis by the civil society organisations.
