Irate students of Ithai Government High School today thronged to the office of Education (S) Director located at New Secretariat Imphal demanding teachers for the school at around 1.30 pm today. The students shouted slogans denouncing the incumbent director and threw books and rice they brought along inside the office complex at New Secretariat complex Imphal.
According to report large number of students from Ithai Government High School today came to Imphal in three buses and after getting down at Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal, the students march a protest rally by passing gate of Chief Minister’s bungalow and the Police headquarters till they reach secretariat office. At Secretariat office the students shouted slogans demanding fielding of the vacant teachers of the school by throwing the books and rice they brought along.
The Ithai Government High School presently has the strength of 550 to 600 students. There were 8 teachers before but after a teacher has been transferred to another school three months back the school is run by only 7 teachers. After the students’ union of the school demanded fielding of the vacant teachers the director of education S recently allotted 6 more teachers to field the vacancy. However the 6 teachers who were allotted to this school did not join the school till today.
Vice President of DESAM, Arambam Thoithoi, who showed solidarity to the students demanded immediate relieved of the incumbent education director. Speaking to group of media persons, Thoithoi said that the government should take action against the six teachers who had been sent to this school as they had not followed the government order. He further appeal those in the teaching profession with no zeal of teaching the students to leave the profession and choose some other which they think fit for them.
