Police team today had a furious confrontation with the people of Japhou Keithel in Chandel district after the people agitated against the removal of mini size Naga National flags fixed on the roadside on the occasion of celebrating the 75th Naga Independence Day.
A large number of people turns violent and burnt a police post at Japhou Bazaar in Chandel district after the state police of Chandel district take down the flags. Receiving the report, a large number of police forces came and disburse the agitators. Disappointed by the police action the people of Japhou Keithel came out in the street and confronted the police team.
The report said that many mini-size Naga National flags at various parts of Chandel district particularly at Japhou Keithel area were fixed to mark the 75th Naga Independence Day. The police team took down the flags while not interfering with the celebration. However, the removal of the Naga National flags had wrath the people of the area and some people pour their anger to a mini police post (for Traffic control) constructed at Japhou Keithel by pulling it down and later burnt it. The video of the burning of the police post as well as the confrontation between the people of Japhou Keithel and the police team have been widely circulated at social media.
There are no reports of any injury or casualty on either side.
