Imphal, May 22:

In an egregious act of vandalism, the temple of Ibudhou Pakhang at Uyal Cheirao Ching in Thoubal district was desecrated, and sacred items belonging to the deity were incinerated by unidentified miscreants at midnight yesterday.
The desecration was discovered around 5:30 am by early morning joggers, who notified the Committee member.
Huidrom Doren, Secretary of the Lai Committee said “The door of the temple of Ibudhou Pakhang, situated within the Gwarok Reserved Forest, was found broken. The garments that adorn Ibudhou and Ibendhou, along with the Dakhan, were found removed from the temple and burnt to ashes outside. The shrines of Ibudhou and Ibendhou were also destroyed, presumably struck with a heavy object.”
Doren lamented the sacrilegious act, stating, “The Committee has been performing the rituals of the deities annually. This act of vandalism and arson by unknown perpetrators is profoundly unfortunate. We urge the concerned authorities to thoroughly investigate this matter.”
A team of Thoubal Police, led by the Officer-in-Charge, visited the site to assess the situation and a formal case has been registered by Thoubal Police.
