Team Prithviraj refutes allegations linking former MLA to JJM irregularities

Team Prithviraj has issued a strong rebuttal to the allegations made by Md. Sangomsumbam Anwar Ali, who had linked former MLA of Moirang Assembly Constituency, M. Prithviraj Singh, to alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The clarification comes in response to remarks made during a press conference held on July 16 at the residence of sitting MLA Thongam Shanti Singh in Moirang Philem Leikai. The press meet, convened by the NPP Moirang Block, was reportedly in reaction to observations raised by Lok Sabha MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam regarding discrepancies in public water connection records. The MP had alleged that fake household water connections were listed on the Ministry’s website using data from the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), with no actual ground-level implementation in areas such as Moirang, Tronglaobi, and Kwakta. Concerns were also raised over possible misuse of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) data being presented as achievements under JJM.
At the press conference, Md. Sangomsumbam Anwar Ali, identified as an Executive Member of the Political Affairs Committee of NPP Moirang Block, claimed that these irregularities occurred during M. Prithviraj Singh’s tenure as MLA between 2008 and 2016. Team Prithviraj has termed the allegation “baseless and defamatory,” stating that it has been widely circulated on social media, cable news channels, and newspapers, causing unwarranted damage to the former legislator’s reputation.
In its clarification, Team Prithviraj pointed out that the Jal Jeevan Mission was launched on August 15, 2019—three years after M. Prithviraj Singh’s tenure ended. As such, they argued, linking him to alleged irregularities under a scheme that did not exist during his term is “false and malicious.”
The team further accused Md. Anwar of attempting to deliberately malign the former MLA and demanded a public apology. Failure to do so, they stated, would compel them to explore legal options to protect M. Prithviraj Singh’s image and seek appropriate redress.
