Imphal, Oct 7: Teachers and staffs of the Manipur University today staged a mass sit-in-protest in front of the main gate of the Manipur University. The sit-in-protest was staged under the initiative of the Manipur University Staffs’ Association, Manipur University Teachers’ Association and the Manipur University Professors’ Association.
Speaking to media persons, President of the Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA), Prof. S. JibonKumar said that the protest is being staged against the recent violent activities that have been underway inside the university complex in the past few days.
“Burning of the University building and other research materials is condemn in the highest form”, Professor Jibonkumar said. He added the people not to repeat such act in future.
Mention may be made that on the evening of October 3 , Recreation Hall of the University has been burnt down by miscreant and in the arson the computer center of the University too cinders. Many research materials have been lost during the arson.
Jibonkumar said that the hard earn knowledge for project works of the students had been destroyed and the impasse in the university will only make suffer to the final semester students of the University.
He further stated that the admission of the academic session could not be started till today due to differences of opinion on reservation policy for admission. However the professor decline to comment on the matter as it would be subjudice as the matter is with the court.
He appealed all concern to restore academic atmosphere in the University.
