Imphal, Aug 24:
The Thadou Community International (TCI) has launched a scathing attack on anti-Thadou elements and the fraudulent Thadou Tribe Council, which have been in the thick of indulging in hate speeches and disinformation with the aim of defaming the Thadou tribe and its leaders. The personal attacks and defamation, according to TCI, are nothing but a scheme to undermine and destabilize the Thadou community.
In a press release, the TCI has strongly refuted the baseless allegations of extending its support or remaining in contact with the Manipur Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh. It said that there is no truth in these allegations and such claims stand unfounded. Further elaboration has been made that TCI is an apolitical body entirely based on Thadou people’s interests rather than political affiliation or motive. The group wonders if those who make these allegations actually want violence for political mileage, and, therefore, such allegations are injurious to the quest for peace and stability.
TCI has also questioned the 10 Zo tribal MLAs and civil society ogranisations who are demanding a separate administration and resignation of the Chief Minister, for their continued presence in the Manipur State Assembly and state administration at present headed by Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
With its global membership operating in the USA, UK, Norway, India, Myanmar, Malaysia, Australia, and Singapore, TCI has no qualms about the non-resident leaders. It demands peace and justice in Manipur. Lavish attention is paid to the fact that the Thadou community has suffered immensely due to violence since 3rd May 2023.
The organization strongly upholds the point that the Thadou tribe should be referred to as “Thadou,” pure and simple, devoid of any prefix or suffix, and the imposition of names such as “Kuki” is erroneous and politically motivated. TCI warns that stealing their culture, identity theft, and the most brazen act of misrepresentation of the Thadou identity as part of the 2003-formed Kuki tribe are strict no-nos.
It further stated, “TCI reaffirms its commitment towards protection of distinctive Thadou identity from any threatening agenda and simultaneously stands against abuse of Thadou rights by the Kuki supremacists.”.
