Imphal, May 3:

Today, an observance themed “Peace and Solidarity with the victims of the crisis” took place at the office of Taragi Cheishu opposite JNIMS main gate, 1st floor, in honor of May 3rd, 2023. The event saw the presence of notable figures, including Padma Shree Awardee Aribam Syam Sharma, who serves as an advisor to Taragi Cheishu, A.S. Hungpro Shimray, the Secretary of Imphal Naga Forum, and Khaidem Mani, the former Chairman of Manipur Human Rights Commission, who attended as the chief guest, guest of honor, and president respectively.
During the observance, Padma Shree Awardee Aribam Syam Sharma highlighted the beauty of the local culture, noting its appreciation by other nations. He also reflected on historical conflicts, such as the Second World War, where enemies were clearly identified. However, he pointed out that the current crisis, sparked by sudden attacks from the Kuki Zo, presents a different challenge, characterizing it as the “second seven-year devastation” driven by external forces aiming to capture Manipur. Sharma emphasized the nomadic nature of the Kuki Zo and their lack of territorial claims, suggesting their motives are conquest-driven. Additionally, he stressed the importance of protecting the valley, stating that village volunteers must take action, and legal measures should be considered against those failing to safeguard it. He concluded by highlighting the necessity of Taragi Cheishu’s continued activities, emphasizing the importance of engaging with diverse communities to effectively address regional challenges.
