Federation of Civil Society Organisation (FOCS) Manipur has commemorated the anniversary of the tragedy that unfolded on May 3 last year as Challenge to Motherland Day.
In the event, Bipinchandra Ahanthem, Bishnupur Akoiba Apunba Lup (BAAL) President Loitongbam Debachand, Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup General Secretary Laishram Mema, Universal Mother Organisation (UMO) President Moirangthem Sorojini Leima, World Meitei Organisation (WMO) President Chingtham Chandramani, Indigenous People’s Organisation Manipur (IPOM) General Secretary Rakesh Moirangthem, Apunba Lup Ningthoukhong Chairman Social Scientist Dr. I S Konthoujam, Meitei Pangal Welfare Organisation (MMWO) President Boboi Khorimayum participated as guest of honors.
Manipur University Department of Anthropology HOD Dr. W. Nabakumar, Manipur University Department of Manipuri Asst Professor Dr. Naorem Sanatomba, Indira Gandhi National Tribe University Faculty Dr. Homen Thangjam also took part in the programme.
Thoidingjam Manihar, President of FOCS, speaking to the media said that “many Meitei got killed, got displaced and many women got raped and assaulted. Against the claims of the Kuki militants, who tried to take over our land, and attacked us, we have organised this convention to discuss what could be done.”
He further added that “This time, unfortunately, we are commemorating this event separately but we appeal that in next year will do it unitedly.
