In a strong escalation of their ongoing agitation, Tangkhul frontal organizations have sealed the official residence of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Zuringla Kengoo, IAS, in protest against her abrupt transfer order, which requires her to hand over charge within less than 24 hours.
Earlier, the protesters had already locked down key government offices, including those of the DC, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), and Superintendent of Police (SP), effectively bringing administrative activities to a standstill. The decision to seal the DC’s official residence follows the state government’s continued silence despite repeated representations and demands from the organizations.
A press release issued by the Media Cell of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and its frontal organizations reiterated their firm stance, asserting that the agitation will persist and escalate further until their legitimate demand is met. They view the transfer not merely as a routine administrative move but as a deliberate attempt to undermine the interests of the people of Ukhrul.
At a time when external pressures threaten the community—particularly with increasing calls to scrap the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and impose border fencing along Naga-inhabited areas—the protesters assert that such actions weaken their collective strength. They stressed that they will not allow their dignity, identity, and self-respect to be trampled upon by any authority.
The agitation continues to gain momentum, with Tangkhul civil bodies calling for unwavering public support to safeguard their rights and interests.
