Supporters of ticket denied BJP candidates burnt flags and posters after the announcement of BJP candidates; 3 sitting MLAs not on the list

Protest erupted in different parts of Manipur minutes after the final list of BJP candidates for the upcoming poll was announced today afternoon. Minutes after the ticket was announced, protest started at Takhellambam Leikai of Sagolband Assembly Constituency. The protestor burnt flags, posters and other documents in front of the office of the Sagolband BJP Mandal located at Takhellambam Leikai.
The protestors also blocked Tiddim Road for a while by sitting in the middle of the road. Police dispersed the protestors by firing Tear Gas and Smoke Bombs.
A protestor said, “The BJP which has been against Family Politics done by the Congress is now following the same suit as the Congress. By giving ticket to a new comer and neglecting the ones who have been working heart soul for the part, it has come to the fore that Family politics is now existent in the Bharatiya Janata Party.” It may be mention that the ticket race for the BJP between Rajkumar Imo and Khwairakpam Loken was a closely watched one by political analyst.
Meanwhile, in Kakching Assembly Constituency supporters of M Rameshwar burnt flags and poster of the BJP after the ticket was given to Yengkhom Surchandra. The supporters of Rameshwar vow to abolish BJP from Kakching AC.
Shortly after the announcement of candidates, intending candidate of Wangkhei AC Thangjam Arunkumar convened an emergency meeting and also resigned from the primary membership of Bharatiya Janata Party. Also, ex-Minister Dr Nimaichand Luwang of Wangkhem AC also tenders his resignation from the BJP in a Facebook post made from his account, after the ticket for the said AC was allotted to Yumnam Nabachandra Singh.
Three sitting MLAs namely Yumkham Erabot of Wangkhei AC, M Rameshwar of Kakching AC and P Saratchandra of Moirang AC were denied the party ticket and was off the list of the candidates announced today. Altogether 3 women were included in the list of candidates namely Soraisham Kebi of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, Nemcha Kipgen of Kangpokpi AC and SS Olish of Chandel AC.
It may be mentioned that before the announcement of its candidates for the upcoming Election, securities were beefed up in and around the party office, Thambal Shanglen located at Nityaipat Chuthek. Also, security personnels were seen at the locality of Party president, A Sharda Devi at Bamon Leikai. As of now no untoward incident has been reported so far except for flags, posters and documents burning.
