Students protest teacher transfer amid staff shortage

IT News
Bishnupur, July 27:

Students from Bishnupur Higher Secondary School staged a protest today against the transfer of their geography teacher, M. Gwangngamdai, amidst an ongoing staff shortage. The demonstration saw students rallying from the school to the Bishnupur Forest Gate on Tiddim Road before returning to the school grounds.
The protest was sparked by the recent transfer order for Gwangngamdai, who joined the school on July 26, 2024. Students voiced their demand for the immediate cancellation of the transfer order and warned the school principal not to release the teacher. They emphasized that failure to meet their demand would lead to further action, including consultations with student organizations and civil society groups to block Tiddim Road if necessary.
“The shortage of teachers is severely impacting our education, and transferring one of our key teachers will only worsen the situation,” said one of the protesting students. “We need our geography teacher to stay.”
The administration has yet to respond to the students’ demands.
