As part of a coordinated state-level initiative to reclaim government land from illegal occupation, district administrations across Manipur have launched extensive eviction drives in recent days. The operations are aimed at clearing encroachments on state land to facilitate future infrastructure development and public utility projects.
In Thoubal district, the eviction drive was carried out today under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner Hannah Khamei, in collaboration with the Police Department and Thoubal Municipal Council. The operation covered multiple areas where government land had been illegally occupied. Khamei, who visited several of the eviction sites, informed that a public notification had been issued on July 22, 2025, alerting residents about the impending action. She appealed for public cooperation and stated that the drive would continue in the coming days.
Personnel from the Revenue Department, police, and various line departments were actively involved in the operation. The administration emphasized that the reclaimed land will be used for future public infrastructure and civic development projects.
Similar eviction drives have also been conducted in other districts, including Imphal West and Imphal East, where unauthorised structures on government and municipal lands were dismantled. In Imphal West, the district administration removed several illegal constructions from public roadsides and drainage areas, while in Imphal East, encroachments on reserved government land and forest fringes were cleared under tight security arrangements.
Eviction operations were also reported in Bishnupur and Kangpokpi districts, where the authorities targeted encroachments on government office premises, community spaces, and protected areas.
The state government has maintained that these drives are crucial for enforcing land regulations and preventing the misuse of public property. Officials have reiterated that such measures will continue across the state in the interest of law, order, and long-term public benefit.
