State security force mulls agitation against Government apathy at Ukhrul

The present imbroglio ensuing in the Ukhrul district of Manipur after the unfortunate incident where two persons fell to the bullets of the state security personnel and injuring many more while trying to contain a protest rally in flagrant violation of the CRPC 144 imposed by the state Government, is set to worsen with the state security personnel deployed in the area beginning to feel stifled with the present arrangement of the state Government. According to a highly reliable source close to Imphal Times, the security personnel who are presently contained inside the Ukhrul Mini Secretariat and prevented from stepping outside the campus are mulling an “Arms Down” agitation if the state Government fails to address their concerns very soon. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a state security personnel disclosed that the living condition inside the Mini Secretariat is pathetic at best.“We are putting up with a whole lot of inconveniences, over and above the order that has gagged us and made us useless. We are considering surrendering our arms to the state Government and returning home if the present situation does not change for the better very soon”. They have also learnt from their sources that the NSCN (IM) is planning an assault on the Mini Secretariat, and are taking up safety precautions with all available resources at their disposal, the source added. The situation inside the camp is tense and apprehensive right now. Meanwhile, various civil society organizations have called for non-cooperation with the state forces while the UNC have declared stoppage of all development works and schemes in naga inhabited areas of Manipur from today.
