State handloom Expo 2021- 2022 was inaugurated at Urban Hut of Nilakuthi, Imphal East. The event is oraganised by Manipur Apex Handloom Weaver And Handicrafts Artisans’ C.S LTD, Paona Bazar, Imphal and under the sponsorship of Development Commissioner for Handloom Ministry of Textile, Govt of India, New Delhi.
The keynote and welcome address was given by S. Bhubon Singh and in his speech, stated that Manipur Handloom product are included in Geographical Indication i.e. G.I but we need to work hard more to put more handloom products in G.I.
Ch. Tombi Devi, Guest of Honour stated, we need to modify our Handloom product to make it universal and accepted by different communities example our rani phi made as a Saree full.
Konsam Ibomcha Singh, Padmashree Awardee attended the event as Chief Guest, A. Ronika Devi, The Manipur Apex Handloom Weaver And Handicrafts Artisan’ C.S . Ltd. Imphal as President and Ch. Tombi Devi, Project Manager District Handloom and Textile, Imphal East, M. Ibohal Singh, Assistance Director, Weaver’s Service Centre, Porompat, Imphal East, Dr. Opendro Singh, Social Worker and Designer of Handicrafts, Y. Shantikumar Singh, Office-in-charge, National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd. Porompat, Imphal East as Guest of Honours respectively.
The Chief Guest of the function , Konsam Ibomcha Singh, Padmashree Awardee stated that Market is very important in handloom and Handicrafts Work . So, we need to develop our market.
The expo which starts today will continue till February 15. Altogether 60 stalls participated in this year State Handloom Expo.
