Following the viral video that depicted the torture and parading naked of two women by an unruly mob, the state government today organized protest demonstration against the dishonouring of the modesty of women at all assembly constituencies in the state.
“Government is very serious about the recent video that has surfaced in social media through the internet, that depicted the dishonouring of women’s modesty”, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh told media persons while visiting a protest site at Heingang Assembly constituency.
With an agenda to reach out to the masses and to educate the people of the state – the need for respecting the dignity and modesty of women the MLAs and the Ministers today organized the mass protest against any form of violence and sexual assault to women, Chief Minister said. He added that the state will not tolerate to any such act of brutes and those involved in the heinous act will not be spared.
Women folk joining the protest demonstration at Heingang Assembly constituency urged the government for punishment of those culprits involved in the torturing and harassing of the two women at the earliest. Placards denouncing the demand for separate administration by Kuki community was also used during the protest.
Protests demonstration were also staged at all valley districts of the state including Moirang, Bishnupur, Thanga, Singjamei, Keirao, Konthoujam, Khurai, Lamsang, Thongju Assembly constituencies.
Meanwhile, the state government has appealed to the general public including media houses to take down any videos/ posts/ re-post in social media or refrain/restrain themselves from creating/ spreading of any information/ rumours/ remarks/ comments through any medium related to the alleged incident/ such incidents or otherwise, which will or is likely to aggravate the prevailing law and order situation in the state. An order has been issued by the Commissioner (Home) Govt. of Manipur yesterday.
