State Government advice DCs, SPs to safeguard of properties of displaced people

State Home Department of the government of Manipur has advised the deputy commissioners and District Superintendent of Police to comply with the supreme Court order dated September 25, 2023, at which the apex court ordered for protection of the properties and religious sites of displaced people due to the ongoing conflict.
In its orders issued by the Home Department, Government of Manipur today, Deputy Commissioners and the district Superintendent of Police are advised to comply with the Supreme Court order dated September 25, 2023.
In the Special Leave Petition (Civil) Diary No. 19206/2023 (Dinganglung Gangmei Verses Mutum Churamani Meetei& others), the Supreme Court has directed that the situs of the religious buildings be protected from encroachment and the buildings be protected from damage/destruction. The apex court also directed the state government to ensure the protection of the properties of the displaced persons as well as the properties that have been destroyed/ burnt in the violence and prevent encroachment. In case any property has been encroached, the encroachers be directed to forthwith remove the encroachment, failing which the person concerned would be liable for contempt of court for non-compliance with the order of the Supreme Court of India.
Mentioned may be made that on Oct 5, the State Government cautioned and warned civil society organisations, institutions and individuals against renaming places in Manipur.
Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi had cautions stringent action against renaming districts, sub-divisions, places, and institutions under the relevant law of the land.
