The removal of the Chairman, Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM), before the end of his tenure and without serving the mandatory three-month notice has drawn strong condemnation from the Socialist Student’s Union of Manipur (SSUM).
SSUM, in a statement by its Publicity and Information Secretary Salam Inaoyaima Singh, said that it is due process that notice at least three months in advance has to be issued before relieving a sitting Chairman.
SSUM expressed concern over the functioning of BOSEM, stating that an autonomous institution central to the education sector should not be at the mercy of arbitrary administrative decisions. The union also questioned the propriety of the current Director of Education (S) taking charge as BOSEM Chairman, pointing out that holding dual positions may result in confusion in administrative accountability.
SSUM further pointed out that the appointment of Deputy Director Geetchandra as Secretary in-charge of BOSEM had already created instability within the education system, and urged authorities to ensure transparency and adherence to established procedures.
