On the occasion of Patriot’s day, Ningthemcha Sana Yaima popularly known as RK Meghen ( former leader of UNLF) has stated today that even though colonizers have defeated the Manipur in the Anglo-Manipuri war, the spirit of nationalism still persists among the Manipuris till today. He stated this in the Patriot’s day event organized by the Youth Welfare Organization at the Community Hall of Singjamei Thokchom Leikai.
Along with Ningthemcha Sana Yaima, the former chairman of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Thokchom Ibopishak, President of the Senior Citizen Forum, also attended the event.
The celebration featured a presentation of patriotic songs by New Home Takyel Khongbal and a tribute by the Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang Ta Cultural Association to honor the heroes of Manipur.
Speaking to the media, Ningthemcha Sana Yaima reflected on the significance of Patriots’ Day, noting that it was initiated by the Pan Manipuri Youth League in 1969 and has now reached its 55th year.
Ningthemcha Sana Yaima states that Patriots’ Day, observed on August 13th, is not only a commemoration of the two leaders hanged by the British but also a tribute to the unsung heroes who lost their lives in the 1891 Anglo-Manipur War.
He also mentioned that the Pan Manipuri Youth League has been instrumental in mobilizing the youth to continue the legacy of patriotism and nationalism. Ningthemcha Sana Yaima stressed the importance of observing Patriots’ Day in schools and colleges, especially in the context of ongoing conflicts, to instill a sense of national pride and remembrance among the younger generation.
