Imphal, Sept 30:
The armed rebel group, Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), is observing its foundation day on October 1. Ahead of the occasion, SOREPA’s Chairman, Toijam Ibochouba, extended greetings to the people of the Western Southeast Asia (WESEA) region and shared a message that underscored the group’s mission. He expressed hope for the future of Kangleipak/Manipur, acknowledging the contributions of those working toward a stronger and more prosperous society.
In a lengthy statement, SOREPA Chairman emphasized the significance of unity and determination in overcoming the oppression they claim is being imposed by external forces on Kangleipak/Manipur. These forces, according to the organization, have been exploiting and subjugating the region, threatening its future. SOREPA called on the people to recognize their historical independence and the continuous process of nation-building. The statement suggested that societal development, despite contradictions in ideology or governance, can be achieved through understanding and progress.
SOREPA’s message highlighted that the current conflict with the Chin-Kuki mercenaries, described as allies of India’s forces, is part of a broader historical struggle. The group stressed that wisdom drawn from history, ideology, and culture should guide the region toward a united and prosperous future.
SOREPA also voiced concerns about what it called the “plundering of resources” in Kha-Nongpok Asia by foreign forces, particularly the Chin-Kuki mercenaries. These mercenaries, SOREPA alleged, are acting under India’s direction to suppress Kangleipak/Manipur.
The group further claimed that this conflict extends beyond Manipur and is part of a colonial agenda that includes Myanmar and Bangladesh. SOREPA accused India of using these mercenaries, supported by drug cartels, to exert control over the region.
Reports of drone bombings and sniper attacks by the Chin-Kuki mercenaries have heightened tensions in the area. SOREPA alleged that these acts, supported by external forces, amount to crimes against humanity. The group has called on the United Nations to investigate the situation and take action to hold those responsible accountable.
Furthermore, SOREPA criticized India for its use of advanced weaponry supplied to the Chin-Kuki mercenaries, asserting that the violence inflicted on local communities constitutes genocide. The group urged ASEAN nations, particularly Myanmar and Bangladesh, to remain vigilant against India’s influence, which they claim poses a threat to regional stability.
SOREPA also emphasized the need for WESEA communities to unite in resisting external encroachments. The group concluded by appealing to the international community for support in addressing the ongoing crisis, urging the people of the region to stand firm in their struggle for autonomy and independence from India’s control.
