The Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), an armed rebel group, observed its 4th Raising Day at various locations in Kangleipak (Manipur) and outside the state. According to a statement issued by the outfit, the main observance was held at its Central Headquarters, Tactical Headquarters and Civil Units, where the SOREPA flag was hoisted and tributes were paid to all revolutionary cadres from Kangleipak/Manipur and the wider WESEA region.
Marking the anniversary, messages from SOREPA Chairman Ibochou were read out at all observance sites. In his address, the Chairman alleged that the Government of India’s policies have dehumanised large sections of the population in the WESEA region, describing them as sectarian, discriminatory and aimed at igniting communal conflicts. He accused the Centre and its collaborators of conspiring to sustain unrest while exploiting the region through drug-related activities.
The statement further alleged that a handful of MLAs, Ministers, contractors and capitalists, in league with “Delhi masters,” were undermining the integrity of Manipur by promoting communal politics in both hills and valley.
Calling upon all communities not to support communal conflicts, Chairman of SOREPA, Ibochou argued that such divisions only serve to keep the people under Indian control. He maintained that protecting the identity of each community is the foundation of an egalitarian society and asserted that a united struggle was needed to achieve political freedom in Manipur.
Touching on broader regional dynamics, the SOREPA Chairman accused the Government of India of pursuing “settler colonialism” as part of its neo-colonial policy. He cited historical examples such as the migration of Bengali Hindus into Tripura after the liberation of Bangladesh, and the integration of Sikkim into India in 1975, claiming similar designs were being carried out in Assam and Manipur.
From a geopolitical perspective, Ibochou alleged that India, with support from western powers, was using the WESEA and Himalayan States as a strategic frontier against China, while simultaneously manipulating instability in neighbouring countries such as Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.
He underscored the need for all revolutionary organisations of the region to work together, though noting that such unity would depend on global geopolitical dynamics. Emphasising the importance of technology, he said the present generation must learn Artificial Intelligence (AI), which he described as crucial for education, economic activity, modern warfare and safeguarding national sovereignty.
The observance calls for collective struggle, with SOREPA reiterating its pledge to continue the liberation movement.
