SOO with KNO and UPF expired on 21/08/2014

Suspension of Operation which was ensued between the Governtment of Manipur, Government of India and the rebel organization KNO and UPF has been expired on August 21, 2014 and has not been extended. This was stated by Home Minister Gaikhangam while replying to a question asked by MLA Ginsuanhau during question hour of the ongoing state assembly session today.
Gaikhangam said that the state government has been waiting directives from the Ministry of home affairs for extension of the Suspension of Operation with the two organization. KNO is a conglomerate of Kuki rebel group consisting of 18 different organization while UPF is a group of 8 militants group. After signing the tripartite agreement for suspension of operation, cadres of the two groups have been allotted fooding lodging and accommodation at various designated camp established by the government.
When asked about the reason for not extending the suspension of operation, Gaikhangam said that government had earlier asked for a tripartite talk with the two outfits to consider for the extension of the suspension of operation. However, as the two apex organizations proposed to hold the talk at New Delhi and not in Imphal, the matter should be forwarded to the Ministry of Home affairs. He further said that state government is waiting for directives from the Ministry of home affairs regarding the matter.
