Schedule Tribe demand committee continues their agitation by staging a sit-in-protest at Keishampat Lairembi Community Hall demanding inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the list of schedule tribe of India. The protest was mainly embassies to give pressure to the state Government for introduction of a bill related with the issue in the upcoming monsoon session of the assembly which is going to start from tomorrow. Speaking to the media persons president Y. Mohendro stated that on December 30, 2012, STDC gave a memorandum to Chief Minister and another memorandum was sent to Prime Minister of India on July 10, 2013. Subsequently Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India responding to the Memo of STDC send back an official letter/ memorandum to the responsible department Govt. of Manipur to look in to the issued matter, however till date the state Govt. remain indifferent by keeping mum on the demand of STDC. The apathy of the state Govt. on the issue is unacceptable as STDC will pursue the matter until the fulfillment of the said Demand.
Later, the gathering started a rally towards CM Bungalow for submitting a memorandum to Chief Minister, however was halted by the police near old Central Central Library gate. Dr. Y. Mohendro, Brahamacharimayum Angousana and M. Nongdalenkhomba, President, Vice President and Working president were entered CM Bungalow to submit the said Memorandum.
