A sit-in protest was staged at Nongpok Kakching today afternoon, with residents and civil society organisations voicing strong condemnation over recent civilian killings and demanding immediate measures to restore peace in Manipur.
The demonstration, which began around 1:00 PM, was organised by The Bright Star Union in collaboration with residents of Nongren, Nongpok Kakching, Nongdam, Heirok and Okshu Ningthemcha villages. Protesters expressed deep anguish over the killing of civilians at Tronglaobi and Litan, calling for a concrete and time-bound solution to bring back normalcy in the state.
Participants also raised concerns over incidents reported at Tronglaobi and TM Kasom, describing them as part of a continuing pattern of violence affecting local communities. Placards and slogans reflected demands for justice, accountability and lasting peace.
Several civil society leaders attended the protest and addressed the gathering. Among them were Y Kunjarani, president of AMAWOVA; Ema Soraisam Memcha, president of Poirei Leimarol; vice president Ema Kumudini; general secretary Th. Apabi; Phulindro Konsam, chairman of COHR; and Koijam Helen along with vice president Dr. Norendro Thokchom.
