The District Administration of Senapati, in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare and the District Health Society, has announced a specialized medical initiative under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY). This drive aims to combat vision impairment among the elderly by providing free cataract screenings and surgical interventions.
Recognizing the importance of eye health in maintaining the independence of senior citizens, the “Special Drive for Cataract Screening & Surgical Camps” will target individuals aged 50 years and above.
The camp is designed to be a comprehensive “one-stop” health event for eligible residents, offeringProfessional Eye Screening, Provision of necessary medicines and medical equipment, Free cataract surgeries for patients identified during the screening phase and Transportation arrangements for patients where necessary.
The screening drive will be held across various locations in the district from 10:00 AM onwards at Willong Sub- Health Centre on 30th March, 2026, Sub- District Hospital, Mao on 31st March, 2026, Paomata Primary Health Centre on 6th April, 2026, Phaibung Primary Health Centre on 7th April, 2026 and Oinam Hill Primary Health Centre on 8thApril, 2026.
The Deputy Commissioner of Senapati encourages all eligible senior citizens and their families to take full advantage of this government initiative. This drive represents a significant effort to bring high-quality healthcare directly to the doorsteps of the community, ensuring that no elderly citizen suffers from treatable blindness due to a lack of resources.
