A memorial programme in honour of late Guru Pung maestro Khumukcham Kamini Babu was held at Binnakandi Part 1 in Cachar district, Assam, under the aegis of the Guru Pung Jeiba Khumukcham Kamini Babu Singha Memorial Family Trust, Lamargram.
Pung, a traditional Meitei percussion instrument central to Manipuri Sankirtan, formed the core theme of the observance.
The programme was presided over by Trustee Chairman Khumukcham Kanta Bihari, with Dr. K. N. Chand Singh, retired Professor of G.C. College, Silchar, as chief guest and R.K. Gopalsana, retired Secretary to the Government of Assam, as guest of honour.
On the occasion, the memorial award was conferred on Dr. Haobam Nonikumar Singha, a noted pung exponent and Professor at Assam University, Silchar. The award included a shawl, citation, and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.
Floral tributes were offered to the late maestro, and speakers highlighted his contributions to preserving pung and Manipuri cultural traditions. Trustee Chairman Khumukcham Kanta Bihari stated that the award will be presented biennially to recognise contributions in the field.
