Imphal, Jan 23:
Security measures have been beefed up in and around Imphal City ahead of the meeting called by the Arambai Tenggol at Kangla Uttra. The group had dictated all MLAs, Ministers including the Chief Minister to present in the meeting for taking an effective decision to end the ongoing conflict that has been continuing for almost eight and half months.
Indian security forces with heavy artillery are seen positioned at all the entry of the Kangla Fort.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh led government is taking the matter with extreme seriousness prompting him to call all MLAs meeting followed by a meeting with the opposition MLAs at his office Bungalow.
The arrival of the three-member team from the Special Ministry of Home Affairs headed by AK. Mishra, (Interlocutor Naga peace talk and SoO groups), Mandeep Singh Tuli, (Joint Director, SIB New-Delhi), and Rajesh Kumble, (Joint Director, SIB Imphal) appeared to be a follow-up step of the recent political development in the state. The visit of the interlocutor AK Mishra has created a sense of skepticism as he is the one handling the Kuki SoO militants.
Controversies surrounding on who is the chairman of the Unified Command after Kuldiep Singh himself said that he is under the Chief Minister and the Chief Minister’s recent exposure that Article 355 is enforced in the state through the Opposition MLA K. Meghachandra had created a paradigm shift to the ongoing conflict in the state. It showed that earlier the government had been concealing matters for reason best known to it.
Meanwhile, all gates of the Kangla Fort have been tightened with security forces equipped with war-like weapons.
In the meantime, police have beefed up security checking at many places ahead of the Kangla meeting and also the 75th Republic Day celebration.
