Sanajaoba assures efforts to secure government funds for Sanamahi Kiyong

Former Rajya Sabha MP and titular king of Manipur, Leishemba Sanajaoba, has assured all possible support to Sanamahi Kiyong at Selloi Langmai Ching and said he would make his best efforts to secure funds for its development, religious and cultural programmes through the state government’s annual budget.

Sanajaoba gave the assurance during the Mera Chaorel Houba programme organised by the Lainingthou Sanamahi Thougal Kanglup at Sanamahi Kiyong on Sunday.

He said he would try to ensure that funds were set aside for the shrine’s activities in the government budget. He also assured financial assistance from Sana Konung for important programmes, including those held during Mera Chaorel Houba, wherever support was needed.

Addressing the gathering, Sanajaoba said the Mera Chaorel Houba had a long history, with successive kings of Manipur taking part in the observance. He noted that although the tradition had seen a decline for some time, people were now making efforts to revive it and organise the programme on a larger scale.

He urged the people to work together to preserve Manipur’s traditions, customs and religious practices, stressing the importance of passing the cultural heritage on to future generations.

Sanajaoba also said the government had recognised the area as a tourist destination. He assured that he would extend support in possible ways to improve facilities around the site and make it more convenient for visitors and devotees.

The programme was attended by Angom Ningthou Poireiton, Khurai MLA L. Susindro, Lamlai MLA Kh. Ibomcha, members of the royal household and office-bearers of the Lainingthou Sanamahi Thougal Kanglup.
Traditional Dance and song performances were also held as part of the programme, which saw participation from people across Manipur.
