Residents of Pukhao and Khamenlok areas have alleged that around Rs.1.25 crore in deposits remains unpaid under a scheme called “Yawol Ehou Marup”, reportedly operated in the name of Loyalam Microfinance, and appealed to the authorities to intervene for recovery of their savings.
Addressing a press conference at Koubru Hall of the Manipur Press Club today, Heikrujam Malemnganbi of Wakhong said the scheme began in January 2018, with members making monthly deposits.
She claimed that the scheme involved deposits of up to Rs.1 lakh, with promised returns or payments reportedly reaching Rs.5 lakh. Of the 505 members associated with the scheme, 212 were still awaiting repayment, she said.
According to Malemnganbi, payment disruptions had occurred over the years, with the latest stoppage beginning in January 2026, leaving members struggling to recover their money.
She alleged that Khwairakpam Brojen of Ngangkha Lawai, who reportedly operated the scheme, had told members that only partial payments would be made and that the remaining funds would be taken away.
Malemnganbi further alleged that Brojen and Sangoijao, former manager of the Loyalam Sagolmang branch, had assured members that the payment arrangement was linked to Loyalam. Members had reportedly been receiving loans and making regular monthly payments under the arrangement, she added.
She urged the authorities to investigate the alleged financial irregularities, establish the circumstances surrounding the unpaid deposits and take steps to recover the outstanding amount for the 212 affected members.
