Maheshwar Thounaojam, National Secretary of the Republican Party of India (Athawale), has criticised elected representatives from Manipur, stating that they have not been vocal enough in presenting the ground reality and concerns of the people.
In a statement, Maheshwar Thounaojam said that if central leaders of political parties fail to act in the interest of the people, it reflects a failure in responsibility, which should be conveyed clearly by the public.
Referring to developments in West Bengal, he noted that BJP state leaders had reportedly acknowledged shortcomings within the party, following which Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the state to assess the situation.
He questioned the role of BJP leaders and representatives from Manipur, stating that instead of repeatedly projecting that the situation is under control, they should communicate the actual conditions to the central leadership.
Maheshwar Thounaojam further stated that presenting an overly positive picture may prevent central leaders from understanding the seriousness of the situation in the state.
He remarked that the present situation calls for collective action beyond party interests and urged political leaders to prioritise the welfare of the people. He also stated that if parties fail to take appropriate steps, including pressing for strong action against those involved in violence, the public should convey their dissatisfaction to the central leadership.
