Imphal, Nov. 18:

The Rongmei Phwam Delhi (RPD) and Rongmei Chamnac Phwam Delhi (RCPD) expressed serious concern over financial demands to government and private agencies and contractors in Tamenglong area by CSOs in the name of monitoring development works.
A statement signed by T.T.  Gonmei, General Secretary, RPD and K. Gaisinlung, President, RCPD said that both the organization are greatly alarmed to learn about certain civil society organizations (CSOs), in the name of monitoring developmental works, are issuing summons and even reportedly placing financial demands on Government and private agencies/contractors in Tamenglong area.
It said, even more shocking is a Show Cause Notice issued by Mr. Namgakdai (Nicholas) Gonmei, President, Rongmei Naga Youth Organization Manipur (RNYOM) and Mr. Adai Gangmei, President, Rongmei Naga Students’ Organization (RNSO) to the Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong for having issued an order against such activities. Such illegal and unethical acts are counterproductive to the development of our land and progress of our people.
The RPD and RCPD expressed strong condemnation terming such as shameful.
“We are all aware that the “third sector” i.e., civil society has enormous power to influence the actions of policy-makers and the private sector through the agency of civil society organizations (CSOs), NGOs and other interest groups. However, this power to influence must be exercised responsibly so that much needed transformation can become a reality through cooperation and collaboration of all stakeholders”, the statement added.
