The Rongmei Naga Students’ Organisation, Manipur (RNSOM) has directed its constituent and subordinate units to comply with the directive issued by the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) for observing the 80th Naga Independence Day on August 14.
As per the directive, RNSOM units have been instructed to hoist the Naga National Flag at their respective offices on August 14. Educational institutions and government and non-government offices in Naga areas under its jurisdiction, particularly in Tamenglong and Noney districts, have also been asked to observe a holiday on the day.
RNSOM further urged Naga students, youth and the public to abstain from participating in Indian Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
The organisation said the call was in protest against what it described as the “betrayal” of the August 3, 2015 Framework Agreement, continued militarisation and imposition of AFSPA in Naga areas, policies aimed at fragmenting the Nagas, suppression of Naga rights and denial of justice for alleged human rights violations against Nagas.
RNSOM has directed its units to ensure strict implementation of the directive within their respective jurisdictions.
