Inner Manipur Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam today raised concerns over the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militant organisations in the Lok Sabha under Rule 377, urging the Union Government to review the pact and consider its abrogation if organisations covered under it are found involved in extortion or other unlawful activities.
Bimol had submitted a notice on August 7, citing allegations of rampant extortion along highways and involvement of SoO groups in criminal activities, including the reported abduction and killing of six Liangmei civilians.
He urged the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to review the SoO arrangement and take appropriate action, including termination of the agreement, if violations are established.
The MP also expressed disappointment over the removal of his question on the National Register of Citizens (NRC), which he said had been selected through the ballot for Question Hour. He said he had written to the Lok Sabha Speaker seeking restoration of the question, but it was not taken up.
Bimol further said he had sought to raise the issue of renewed violence in Manipur, particularly incidents in the hill areas and the case involving the six Liangmei victims, during Zero Hour. However, the House was adjourned before he could raise the matter.
