River water level recedes while many areas and paddy fields are still flooded

Imphal, Oct 24: The water level of major river in the state have receded with the opening of four gate of Ethai Barrage, however many people are still facing inconveniences residing on the sides of Kong River due to slow receding of the river water, in Imphal East.
The people residing on both sides of Kongba river are facing the problems of man-made flood due to the failure of proper drainage systems.
Residence of Nongmeibung, Wangkhei Angom Leikai and many areas in Wangkhei and Kshetrigao Assembly constituencies are still facing various inconveniences due to the flash flood cause by the recent rain.
Many houses and roads are still affected by flood water as the drainage systems which suppose to draws the water have fail.
Speaking to Imphal-Times, one of the local of Nongmeibung has express disappointment over the concern department as they are unable to take up necessary steps to avoid the inconveniences faced by the locality till date, mostly when it rains.
Though it rains, this is the tenth flood witness by the locality and its neighbouring areas including the recent one compared to last couple of years, the local said.
The locals draws the attention of the current BJP led state government and concern department to intervene in the inconveniences faced by the locality of Nongmeibung and its surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, many of the paddy fields which are ready to harvest are also affected by the recent rain submerging under water in large scale leaving the farmers helpless with their hands on their head.
In Noney, most of the ripe paddy fields are also affected due to the recent rains causing flash floods and destroying the yet to harvest paddies.
Locals of the Noney also appeal the concern department to look into the matter.
