The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal has upgraded its Neurosurgery Unit and Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery (CTVS) Unit to full-fledged departments with independent budgetary allocations. Dr. Th. Gojendra Singh has been appointed as Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, while Dr. Th. Chito Singh will serve as Head of the CTVS Department.
RIMS officials stated that the upgradation marks a major step toward strengthening advanced clinical services and enhancing academic capabilities at the institute. The development is expected to significantly improve patient care while paving the way for future super-specialty MCh courses in both Neurosurgery and CTVS, thereby expanding specialised training opportunities within the region.
Additionally, a separate Pediatric Surgery unit has been formally created under the Department of Surgery, headed by Prof. I. Keshorjit. The unit aims to provide more focused surgical care for children and support academic advancement within the department.
RIMS further informed that it is also planning to establish independent Departments of Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Haematology to boost specialised medical services. These proposed departments, once set up, are expected to greatly improve patient care delivery in Manipur and neighbouring states.
