Doctors at JNIMS had successfully conducted Revision knee Megaprosthesis replacement surgery after a Bone Tumour (Osteosarcoma ) of the proximal tibia on a 64-year-old man.
According to Doctors at JNIMS, 64-year-old Waikhom Ningthemjao of Kodompokpi was diagnosed with bone cancer (Osteosarcoma) of the Proximal Tibia. He was treated at TATA Cancer Hospital for which surgery knee joint replacement surgery with Megaprosthesis was done in 2009.
Speaking to media persons Waikhom Ningthemjao said that he started having the problem after he fell down incidentally about 10 years back. Following that he went to TATA Cancer Hospital in Mumbai and had Knee Joint replacement surgery with Megaprosthesis in 2009. But after starting pain and instability of the knee joints and felt difficulty walking without support. He said that he lost hope of treatment again as it cost a lot of money to treat in Mumbai or other states. When consulted with doctors from various hospitals he almost lost hope of getting treatment as he could not afford the cost. But at JNIMS where he tried for the last time at JNIMS and finally without spending much money doctors at JNIMS conducted surgery successfully.
According to the Director of JNIMS, Dr. L. Deven said that Ningthemjao came to JINIMS in November 2023 and consulted with Dr. Heishnam Angamba Singh (Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon) and Dr Ch. Banikanta Sharma, HoD, Orthopaedics Dept. along with his team of surgeons of JNIMS conducted surgery (revision of the Megaprosthesis) on December 23, 2023, at JNIMS.
