Rationalisation of Polling station conducted

District election authorities in Imphal West, Imphal East and Tengnoupal have initiated consultations with recognised political parties as part of the rationalisation of polling stations under Phase-III of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls, 2026.

In Imphal West, a district-level meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex under the chairmanship of the District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Deputy Commissioner.

Representatives of recognised national and state political parties, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and other election officials attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed Assembly Constituency-wise draft lists of polling stations and proposals for rationalisation, including amalgamation, bifurcation, shifting and changes in nomenclature, in accordance with directives issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Officials informed political party representatives that the rationalisation process must be completed by June 28, 2026, as per the Commission’s prescribed timeline.

A similar consultation meeting was held in Imphal East on June 15 under the chairmanship of District Election Officer Dr. Nivedita Lairenlakpam. The meeting was attended by election officials and representatives of recognised political parties. Detailed discussions were held on proposed changes to polling stations in Khundrakpam, Heingang, Khurai, Kshetrigao, Keirao and Andro Assembly Constituencies.

According to election officials, representatives of political parties unanimously consented to the proposed changes without raising objections. The approved proposals have been forwarded to the Election Commission of India for consideration and approval.

Meanwhile, the draft list of polling stations for 42-Tengnoupal (ST) Assembly Constituency has also been submitted by the District Election Officer of Tengnoupal to the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur, for further necessary action.

The exercise forms part of the Election Commission’s efforts to streamline polling station management and ensure accuracy and accessibility in the electoral process ahead of future elections.
